Operations Manager (Secondment) / Project Manager
I first came across Eden Gate in November 2016 when my church was asking for volunteers to help with the Newport Nightshelter. It was within the first hour of volunteering at the Nightshelter that I found a passion in wanting to do more to help the guests, so I approached Marc to ask how I could become more involved. From this I started volunteering regularly at Eden Gate drop-in services.
I was born in Newport but moved away to Swansea when I was 18 to complete a BSc Biology Degree at Swansea University, consequently I ended up staying an extra few years to complete an MRes (Master’s by Research) Bioscience Degree with the intention of staying within scientific research. In February 2016 after 7 years of being away from Newport I moved back and continued to work within environmental education for a conservation organisation called the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) based in both Llanelli and Slimbridge.
During a children’s summer camp in July 2014 where I was acting as a Team Leader at my church in Swansea I gave my life to Christ. I certainly wasn’t looking for God at the time, living in a world of sin and shame but God was on my case. In Luke 19:10 Jesus said, “… the Son of man came to seek and to save the lost.” and this is what I believe makes Eden Gate so special, we have opportunities to share this good news. My life was completely changed because of Christ all because someone told me about him and what he’d done for me, I’d love the same for every one of our guests. In February 2018 I accepted the role of Project Manager at Eden Gate, it’s a real pleasure working with such a passionate team, all of which are fueled by their continuous love and compassion for our guests and the desire of wanting to see their lives changed.
