John Lipscomb
Sunday Munch Volunteer Team Leader
I became involved in work of Edengate as a Bus Driver. When the Church in Wales congregation, where I’m a Lay Minister, became involved in the Night Shelter we were also told about the need for Bus Drivers to enable the other outreach work to the homeless of Newport.
I became part of the Sunday team giving out packed lunches, working with the Team Leader Jan Goddard. With time as the bus was replaced by a fixed venue, I became an occasional replacement/deputy to Jan. This has developed into the joint leadership of what is now the Sunday Munch.
The Sunday Munch with the help of many volunteers and even more churches throughout the Newport district we feed between 50 and 70 homeless and vulnerably housed people every Sunday. We are always looking for more volunteers to assist in this valuable work of the kingdom (we need at least 7 volunteers each week from 1.30pm to 4pm to operate safely), where we pass on the love shown by the churches who donate the lunches. Also sharing the food kindly donated by community organisations and individuals after events and parties.
