Gillian Mary Curtis
On leaving school with A levels in law and economics and an OND in business studies I worked in statistics with the Department of Trade and Industry and later in the County and Crown Court Service of the Lord Chancellor’s Department, processing documents, as a Court Clerk and as Secretary to the Principal of Croydon Crown and County Court Centre.
While at home bringing up a family I studied with the Open University and gained a BA after completing courses in the Social Sciences and Education. Returning to work I taught ESOL in Community Education in Newport and obtained a PGCE in post 18 education and a certificate in supporting adults with dyslexia.
I am now retired but the skills I have obtained in working and raising a family I feel can be used to help others in the community. My strengths lie in working as part of a team, listening, and encouraging.I have recently finished my seventh year of organising and managing the Newport Winter Nightshelter at my local church and, as well as being a Trustee, work as a volunteer with the Eden Gate clients.
